“Barbie” is ready to visit your Dreamhouse.
Director Greta Gerwig's sweetly subversive comedy starring Margot Robbie as the iconic Mattel doll will be available Tuesday, Sept. 12, to purchase for home viewing.
The biggest movie of 2023, which has raked in $1.4 billion worldwide, focuses on Stereotypical Barbie (played by two-time Oscar nominee Margot Robbie) as she ponders her existence and ventures to the Real World, with her adoring Ken (Ryan Gosling, also twice nominated for an Oscar) in tow.
Here’s everything you should know about the pink-saturated movie, which awards pundits have already tipped as an Academy Awards contender:
When does the 'Barbie' movie come out to watch at home?
“Barbie” will be available Tuesday for digital purchase on Apple TV, Vudu, Amazon and Google Play. (A rental date will be coming soon.) It is not yet available on Blu-ray or DVD.
And if you're itching for an at-home "Barbenheimer" double feature, you'll have to wait a little longer on that: “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s true-life drama detailing the birth of the atomic bomb, is still in theaters only.
Is the 'Barbie' movie suitable for kids?
"Barbie" is rated PG-13, so it's not intended for young children. The movie delves into heady themes such as the meaning of life and the patriarchy. In a dance scene, Robbie’s Barbie drops the line, “Do you guys ever think about dying?” There is a degree of sexual innuendo: Gosling's Ken suggests spending the night with Barbie at her Dreamhouse, then acknowledges he has no idea why.

How long is the 'Barbie' movie?
“Barbie” runs 1 hour and 54 minutes.
Who is in the 'Barbie' cast with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling?
Half of Hollywood, basically. Robbie and Gosling lead the bunch as Barbie and Ken. Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Nicola Coughlan, Hari Nef and many more play other Barbies, while Simu Liu and Kingsley Ben-Adir are among the various Kens. Emerald Fennell and Michael Cera portray now-discontinued dolls Midge and Allan, respectively, and pop star Dua Lipa appears as a mermaid Barbie. America Ferrera and Will Ferrell round out the cast as human characters.
Who is on the 'Barbie' movie soundtrack with Dua Lipa?
Dua Lipa scored a top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 with the film's disco-infused lead single, "Dance the Night." The movie opens with the infectious new song "Pink" by Lizzo, and ends with the emotional "What Was I Made For?" by Billie Eilish. Artists including Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Charli XCX and Haim also contributed to the soundtrack, as did Gosling with hilarious power ballad "I'm Just Ken."
What happens at the end of the 'Barbie' movie?
If you've already seen "Barbie" and want to read more, Gerwig took us on a spoiler-filled deep dive into the movie's brilliant last line, along with the real-life history of the doll's creator. Rob Thomas also opened up about Gosling's inspired cover of Matchbox Twenty in the film, and we took a look at Ferrera's powerful monologue that is resonating with viewers.
Who created Barbie?
Barbie was created by Ruth Handler, who co-founded Mattel in 1945 with husband Elliot. The doll (full name: Barbara Millicent Roberts) is named for the couple’s daughter, Barbara.
Mattel is the maker of other popular toys including Hot Wheels and Polly Pocket.
How old is the Barbie doll?
Introduced in 1959, the Barbie doll is officially 64 years old.
If Barbie doesn't exactly look like a baby boomer, it might be because Barbie was meant to be 19 when she was released, and plastic dolls aren't usually subject to the aging process.
